There’s a lot going on in this red head.
Marketing maven by day, portrait photographer by passion, I appreciate the many facets of my subjects because people fascinate and energize me.
Portraiture has never been far from my heart, whether it was in the local studio I ran in the mid-90s or the photos I’d take of family and friends when the mood struck. But sometimes it takes a big event to unlock your true creative voice.
In 2013, I suffered a spinal injury. It was one of those experiences where you’re reminded of your mortality, your vulnerability, and the preciousness of everything around you. I was inspired to create a deeply personal collection in which I combined my x-rays and MRIs with self-portraits. The next thing I knew, I was a featured artist at the E.A.S.T. Austin Studio Tour. Since then, I’ve been continually inspired to do more creative projects with some pretty amazing people.
I’ve learned a lot about myself through photographing others. I learned not to reserve that feeling—that clarity and appreciation of life—for when trauma strikes. I learned that everyone has a story to tell. And I learned that even though I don’t use a pen or a stage, I’m a great storyteller.
